Atlas Delivers First Superconnected Broadband in Belfast
Atlas Communications is the first provider to deliver super fast broadband to the business community in Belfast under Belfast City Councils Superconnected Cities Voucher Scheme. Under the scheme businesses within the Belfast City Council area with inadequate broadband services can avail of vouchers up to a value of £3000 to support the installation of broadband infrastructure to their premises.
Atlas provided high-speed secure wireless broadband services to the first customers under the scheme in December and is continuing to roll out the service to others utilising brand new infrastructure from number of strategic high points across the city.
Commenting on the service launch, Atlas Programme Manager, Manus Savage said, ‘What we aim to do is deliver broadband at a price that fits most businesses and do it a way that is high impact, rapidly deployable and with as little civil works disruption as possible. The service represents a new wireless infrastructure for the city and is different from those seen previously.’
‘In particular, as well as offering high speed downloads similar to fibre to the cabinet services, our service provides much higher upload speeds making it ideal for media and content intensive businesses.
‘For those businesses with previously limited broadband capacity this service opens up much greater access to cloud based and remote access services providing new options for how an organisation chooses to operate’
A critical component of the service is its lack of dependency on existing telephony cable infrastructures providing resiliency for those businesses who depend on broadband to work day to day.
For Michael Jackson of SOS Group, one of the launch customers, the service has changed their Internet access dramatically. ‘We deploy web based services at our offices but with poor download and upload we couldn’t make the best of what we wanted to do. The new service it transforms access speeds and usability. In short the business can operate faster’
The Connection Voucher Scheme provides financial support towards the cost of high-speed connectivity solutions and third-sector organisation within the Belfast City Council area and have slow or incompatible broadband service. Organisations can apply for vouchers that support the cost of installation of high speed broadband services from a range of providers in the marketplace.
