iomart Company Hosts New Website for Missing People Charity

Maidenhead, UK: Missing People, the charity that acts as a lifeline for the families of the 250,000 adults and children who go missing in the UK every year, has turned to dedicated hosting company RapidSwitch to ensure its biggest campaign of the year is a success.

On May 25 Missing People will host a huge social media campaign called The Big Tweet for Missing Children to mark International Missing Children’s Day. This involves the Sun Newspaper and the charity’s celebrity supporters re-tweeting appeals for missing children every half an hour for 24 hours.

Last year, the campaign achieved 58,000 RTs, with Simon Cowell, Victoria Beckham, Stephen Fry and Lord Sugar all tweeting for the appeal, causing thousands of people to descend on the Missing People website which then crashed under the strain.

This year the charity has a brand new website designed by Chigwell web design agency WebX Solution which is being hosted by RapidSwitch on a dedicated server capable of dealing with the huge spike in traffic expected on the day.

Ross Miller, Director of Communications & Fundraising for Missing People, said: “Our website is at the heart of The Big Tweet and last year’s amazing success put a noticeable strain on the old server. This year we have got the bandwidth and power to deal with the many, many thousands of hits that we expect to the new site thanks to The Sun and numerous celeb supporters. The new design and the powerful hosting behind it will ensure that The Big Tweet is a big success.”

Neil Christie, Commercial Director for RapidSwitch, added: “Not only is the Missing People website central to the success of The Big Tweet, it also co-ordinates the search for anyone who goes missing in the UK by providing valuable information for their families, the agencies looking for them and the public. It now has a scalable, flexible hosting solution to deal with any demand that is placed on it.”

Jo Youle, Chief Executive of Missing People, said: “We’re very fortunate to have this sort of resource and it makes us extremely confident that we are now able to maintain a top service as our work increases in profile. Many thanks to all involved.”
