EVS’ SEA GAMES INFRASTRUCTURE TRIUMPHS AT IABM
Design and innovation award for content and communication infrastructure awarded to multi-sport second screen application
Booth 8.B90, IBC2015, Amsterdam RAI, 14 September 2015 – EVS, the leading provider of live video solutions, has been honoured with the 2015 IABM Design and Innovation award for Content and Communication Infrastructure at a ceremony held last night, 12 September, at IBC2015. EVS won the award for its design and delivery of the end to end multimedia production solution which supported the 28th SEA Games second screen mobile application. This application was the first of its kind for a multi-sport tournament.
Viewers anywhere in the world were able to download the NETCO SPORTS-developed application on Apple and Android devices and throughout the tournament held in Singapore in June, could watch live and near-live multicam clips and replays.
The live multimedia production system that was provided by EVS enabled the production of hundreds of hours of sports coverage and it was made available to them in a completely unique way. In addition to ingest, clipping and storage capabilities provided by an XT3 server and IPDirector asset management, EVS’ cloud based service C-Cast solution connected with the on-site production infrastructure to deliver content to the mobile application.
Over the course of the two week tournament, more than 300,000 users generated 37 million sessions of data consumption on the 28th SEA Games application. 90% of these used the application more than once and the average time of any session was just over eight minutes – nearly 30% longer than that of similar sports in 2014. These figures are proof of a growing interest in consuming sports on mobile devices.
Winners of the IABM Design and Innovation awards were selected in categories which reflect the entire breadth of the broadcast technology industry. Winning projects were assessed on their perceived impact to the industry in terms of end user benefit, value for money, innovation, implementation, performance or new opportunities created.
“This IABM award win is something that everyone at EVS is incredibly proud of,” said Nicolas Bourdon, svp marketing at EVS. “The SEA Games project was one of innovation and the resulting interest in C-Cast shows that there’s an increasingly big market for mobile applications that provide audiences with new ways to watch their favourite sports.”
EVS’ C-Cast, and a number of the applications it powers are currently on display on the EVS booth, 8.B90. To find out more about the 28th SEA Games mobile TV application, view the case study here on EVS.com.
